Rape accused BSP MLA sacked from party post

New Delhi, January 01: A fortnight after Purshottam Naresh Dwivedi, the ruling party MLA from Naraini in Banda district, got a Dalit minor Neelu Nishad (name changed) jailed allegedly on a cooked up charge of theft, the BSP sacked him from the post of party coordinator on Friday. The Banda police, which had sent Neelu to jail when she approached them with a complaint that she had been raped by the legislator, also swung into action getting the girl medically examined.

Purshottam has denied the charges of rape insisting that Neelu was like his own daughter and he himself was a victim of burglary.

SP, Banda, Anil Das went to the women’s jail on Wednesday afternoon. He was accompanied by CO, Attarra, DySP Rajendra Prasad and SI Shyam Sunder Shukla of Attarra police station. SI Shukla was the investigating officer (IO) of the burglary case lodged by the MLA’s son.

On Thursday, the police chief had described his jail visit as ”routine security check” but the hurried arrival of chief medical officer (CMO), Banda, Dr Mary Singh, chief medical superintendent (CMS) of the district women’s hospital, Dr Vimla Sharma and a mid-wife Chunni in the official vehicle of Attarra CO, suggested that there was more to it. They were later joined by the jail doctor Dr SC Sahu. SP Anil Das left the jail at 6.42 pm, while the doctors stayed there till late evening, sources said.

The team of doctors rushed to the jail following reports that Neelu had complained of intermittent vaginal bleeding since she arrived at the jail. It was only after her condition deteriorated that the SP was informed. He then ordered an emergency check-up.
