Madrid : Real Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos has heaped praise on midfielder Luka Modric, labeling him as the `backbone` of the team, after he scored a match- winning goal during his side’s 2-1 win over Granada in the La Liga clash.
It was Modric’s first La Liga goal this season and just his second goal overall.
“His goal today makes him more visible, but for me what he brings to the game is a must. He’s never marked out much, but he is the backbone of the team,” Ramos was quoted as saying by goal.com.
Ramos, however, admitted it was a difficult match for his side as Real failed to create chances before Modric scored a stunning goal in the 85th minute.
Ramos also showered praise on teammate Karim Benzama, who also contributed in his side’s triumph by scoring his 19th league goal of the season.
Describing Benzema as a `unique` player, the 29-year-old insisted that he had played tremendously and could turn out to be an asset for the Spanish giants.
Madrid are currently third in the league standings and are four points behind top-placed Barcelona, while Granada are just one spot above the relegation zone.
Madrid will next lock horns with Athletic Bilbao on Saturday. (ANI)
