Colombo, September 04: Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has praised his Sri Lankan counterpart Mahinda Rajapaksa’s leadership that enabled his country defeat the “ruthless” LTTE, a task that was deemed impossible by the world.
“By vanquishing a most ruthless terrorist organisation such as the LTTE, President Rajapaksa has succeeded in drawing the attention of the entire international community towards Sri Lanka,” the state owned ‘Daily News’ quoted him as saying.
Chavez made these observations when the two leaders met on the sidelines of 40th anniversary celebrations of Libyan revolution in Tripoli on Wednesday.
He said Rajapaksa’s leadership in defeating LTTE, a task which was deemed impossible by the world at large, is a glowing example for other countries beset with such a problem.
