Varanasi, September 25: In view of reports of some inmates using mobile phones and other electronic gadgets, police raided the city central and district jail where Madhumita Shukla murder convict Amarmani Tripathi and mafia don Brijesh Singh are lodged among others.
District Magistrate Ajay Kumar Upadhyay along with District Judge Vashishtha Prasad Shukla and DIG PC Meena conducted raids at the central jail and district jail yesterday.
Among the barracks searched were that of former minister Amarmani Tripathi, mafia don Brijesh Singh and some terrorists who had operated in Jammu and Kashmir but nothing incriminating was found.
According to some jail officials, the news of the raid was leaked and thus nothing was recovered.
The raids were carried out in the backdrop of reports that some criminals were using mobile phones and electronic gadgets.
