Panaji, November 24: Terming ragging as “a crime against humanity”, President Pratibha Patil, who was conferred upon a degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt) by Goa University today, asked students to desist from “the shameful behaviour”.
“Ragging in all our universities and educational institutions must stop. It is a crime against humanity and a shameful behaviour…Education must develop cultured attitude and social awareness in students. Otherwise it is unrelated to life and its environment,” Patil said at the university’s 22nd annual convocation ceremony held at Dona Paula near here.
The President also asked the universities to assess requirements of the job market well in advance and structure courses in a manner that will help students prepare themselves for the employment market.
“In India, problem is more of employability than unemployment…the skills that people have are not appropriate for securing employment.
