Quiet, but louder Gandhi ideals ‘stage’ novelty

New Delhi, December 06: They communicate, convey and express themselves as they delve into the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, but no words are spoken by these artists in their 70 minutes of rendition.

In a unique theatrical experiment, a group of Delhi University students, have come up with a novel way to present their script — one in which it is left to the actors to communicate in their own way and the audience to draw their own interpretations.

Labelled as “Gul-Gulee Circus,” the play by students of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, is making waves in theatrical circles and has been performed eight times across the capital.

“Since we wanted the actors to communicate their conviction, we preferred they do it non-verbally rather than with vanity and loudness,” said Prof Pramesh Ratnakar, one of the brains behind the concept.
