New Delhi: Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh and all the party MLAs of the state will will meet President Pranab Mukherjee on the SYL issue tomorrow to seek his intervention.
All the Punjab Congress MLAs had resigned from the Assembly last week after the Supreme Court ruling on the SYL issue. The Assembly Speaker had earlier said that the “matter (resignation) was under consideration”.
A Punjab Congress delegation led by Amarinder will also meet Chief Election Commissioner Naseem Zaidi tomorrow morning to ensure all steps for a free and fair poll in the state.
The delegation will apprise the CEC of the prevailing situation in Punjab, which goes to the polls in about three months time, and urge the Commission to take all possible steps for fair polls.
Alleging a total collapse of the administration as well as the law and order in the state, the Congress will reiterate its demand for imposition of President s Rule in the state to ensure that elections are held in a free atmosphere, unhampered by the threat of violence and misuse of authority by the Badal government.
The party has been consistently demanding immediate imposition of the code of conduct to prevent further vitiation of the political atmosphere in the state, and will also seek enhanced security measures to conduct the polls in an objective and fear-free environment.
