Hyderabad, April 21: A field worker of a government agency, who was agitating for salary hike at the Ranga Reddy Zilla Parishad office at Khairatabad, fell on a vehicle in the convoy of the home minister, Ms P. Sabita Indra Reddy, while running for cover from police caning.
With the activist falling on the car, its windshield was broken. The activist was not hurt. The Punjagutta police inspector Mr Ashok Chakaravarthy, said: “About 100 field workers of a government agency supported by the Citu went to the Ranga Reddy collectorate to meet the collector. As they were told the collector was at the ZP office they went there. Since they were raising slogans and blocking the way of the minister’s convoy, the police caned them.”
“During caning one of the protesters ran and fell on one of the vehicles of the convoy. There was no stone pelting,” the police official said. The workers were demanding hike of pay from Rs 2,000 to Rs 6,000.
