Probe to dig out bigger drug racket involving Goa cops: CBI

A day after arresting five Goa Police Constables for allegedly planting drugs on an Israeli national during his arrest in 2010, the Central agency plans to dig deeper into the racket.

The Constables, then attached to Anti-Narcotics Cell, were arrested yesterday for planting drugs on Israeli national David Driham alias Dudu. Sub-Inspector Sunil Guddlar was arrested in connection with the same offence a few days back.

Deputy Inspector General (CBI) Pravinkumar Salunke today told reporters that investigations are aimed at exposing bigger nexus in which a particular police team was fabricating drug cases against people and arresting them.

The five Constables and the PSI were part of a team that conducted a raid on Dudu in 2010 and claimed to have
seized a cocktail of drugs from him. The foreign national had denied the charge and alleged the drugs were planted on him by a team of the Anti-Narcotics Cell.

The investigation records of the ANC in the Dudu case was not satisfactory, Salunke said. “We will have to find out why they fabricated the case against Dudu.”

The probe will focus on why policemen were involved in such illegal acts, the DIG stated.
