Pro-Telangana activists protest Chiru’s change of stand

Hyderabad, December 17: Even as Praja Rajyam Party(PRP) President Chiranjeevi today announced a change in his party’s stand in favour of united Andhra Pradesh, a deeply upset pro-Telangana PRP activists staged a noisy demonstration in front of the party office.

However, eight PRP leaders, including its official spokesman Shravan were taken into police custody when they created ruckus in front of the office, protesting against their leader dumping the pro-Telangana stand at a time when the Centre had initiated the process to meet the long-pending demand of people of the region.

A high drama was witnessed in front of the party office as the angry pro-Telangana activists shouted slogans against Chiranjeevi and tried to gatecrash into the party office. Policemen, who reached the office anticipating trouble, bodily lifted them into waiting police vehicles and took them to the Jubilee Hills police station.

Though Chiranjeevi expressed confidence at a press conference that he would be able to convince his partymen from Telangana, the party was likely to suffer an exodus of Telangana leaders in the party, which has two legislators from the region.

Meanwhile, the pro-Telangana activists have decided to boycott films of Chiranjeevi and his family members and stopped screening of his films in Telangana since yesterday.
