Priyadarshan gives lessons to budding journalists

Bhopal, December 13: Journalists should not get involved into giving justice or verdict. This is the work of judiciary and others, said Priyadarshan, senior producer of NDTV in a script-writing workshop organised for thejournalism students of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication.

He said, “We should use words with precaution as the news is exposed to the entire society.” Senior journalist and editor of Rastriya Sahara Harish Pathak was also present on the occasion.

Talking about the use of language in TV journalism, he said that journalists should not exhibit their language skills and keep themselves aloof from using Government script. Use of official and technical languages should be avoided. Script should be short, crisp and informative, and for continuous improvement one should write script regularly. “Our language will be only effective when we have a deep relation with our own language,” said Priyadarshan.

Senior journalist Harish Pathak, expressing his views on ‘Journalism in Bihar’, said journalism in Bihar is for those who want to be aware of facts. The readers in Bihar like sharp and focused journalism. People in Bihar do not like fashion journalism. People-oriented journalism is priority of the State. Maximum cost of newspapers is in Bihar, but readers like to buy them.

Both of the journalists gave technical information about script writing and also discussed about journalism.
