Prison, lashes for assault on hospital director

Hail, July 7 – The Hail District Court has sentenced two citizens, working for the security staff at King Khalid Hospital (KKH) in Hail, to prison and lashes for assaulting Dr. Fawaz Al-Rashid, the KKH director.
One was sentenced to 10 months in prison and 250 lashes to be administered in front of the hospital entrance, while the other was sentenced to one year in prison and 350 lashes, also to be administered in front of the hospital entrance.
Reports stated that both attackers used a stick and caused multiple light and deep injuries. They barged into Al-Rashid’s office despite the secretary’s attempt to prevent them from doing so. The attackers objected to Al-Rashid’s decision to fire them.
“A row started between the hospital director and two individuals from the security staff, which led to a quarrel after which Mr. Al-Rashid was injured,” said Lt. Col. Abdulaziz Muhammad Al-Zunaidi, media adviser at Hail Region Police. Investigations are underway, he said.
