Prison BPO to begin work shortly

Hyderabad, April 30: The first Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) unit at Cherlapally central prison is all set to work with IT companies from May-end, said KC Srinivas Rao, prison superintendent.

The BPO unit has got work orders from the Indian Postal and Life Insurance departments and would start functioning soon.

The unit would focus on national and international IT companies and also working in a public-private partnership with global IT firm Radiant Info Systems Ltd.

Srinivasa Rao said the BPO which started in May 2010, took one year to procure all equipment and train technicians for handling the work.

β€œThe first batch of 20 members has finished training and is ready to take up their jobs. Another batch of 20 members is presently undergoing training,” said the superintendent.

He said, β€œ20 inmates were shortlisted by conducting preliminary tests. They have been chosen according to their interest level and aptitude for the job.”

He added that prisoners who had completed their class X and Intermediate education were selected for the training programme.
