Prayers on, fingers crossed for girl trapped in well

Jaipur, June 21: A girl, 4, who feel into a 200-feet deep bore-well on Saturday evening will be reached by rescuers soon, say authorities in Moradi village in Rajasthan’s Dausa district.

Anju is stuck 50 feet below in the bore-well but she is alive. Authorities are digging a tunnel parallel to the eight-inch wide bore-well and have lowered oxygen pipes for her.

Anju’s father told reporters she fell into the bore-well while returning home at around 4 pm (1600 hrs IST) on Saturday. Police officials say earthmoving machines are being used to dig the parallel tunnel.

Senior police and administration officials are monitoring the rescue work. Open and unsecured wells have become a public hazard in recent years.

Sonu, a two-year-old boy, died after a four-day rescue operation in Lehrakapura village near Agra failed. The 150-feet deep bore-well he was trapped in was dug up some two-three months ago near his home and was abandoned unsecured.

Prince, 5, was lucky. He fell into a 60-ft bore-well in Hardaheri village near Kurukshetra in Haryana in July 2006 grabbed and was rescued after two days.
