Hyderabad: Even as the government had assured uninterrupted power supply during Ramadan, repeated power failures and blackouts over the past few days are giving a tough time to the Old city residents during Saher. Many Old City residents complained that they were being forced to sweat it out during saher and spend time in the dark due to power cuts. Qazi Pura, Akbar Bagh, Aliabad, Bahadurpura and Karwan are among the most affected areas.
Old city residents are experiencing power-cuts and voltage fluctuations mostly during the morning hours between 2.30 am and 6 am.
TOI has quoted Mohammed Laiquddin Malik, a businessman and resident of Qazi Pura, as saying, “There was a power issue at my place in the morning around saher time. This is the time when the family cooks the meal which would be the fuel for the entire day. My brother informed the electricity department but it took a long time for power to be restored. On Thursday morning, we had an issue of voltage fluctuation.”
Mohammed Abdul Bari, a businessman and a resident of Akbar Bagh, said despite complaints, the authorities were taking time to act. “We spoke to the officials and complained in vain. When we called them again, they did not answer. We then spoke to higher officials and they have agreed to help. We have also requested them to install a transformer of higher capacity in our area,” he said.
However Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company officials denied delaying the response to the complaints. Divisional engineer (south circle) T Anand, attributed interruptions to external factors. He claimed to have stationed an assistant engineer and an assistant divisional engineer to look into problems.
