Mysore, May 29: Poverty, migration for jobs and parents’ reluctance to continue educating their wards after primary level the main among reasons for children dropping out, according to Education Department sources.
Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Karnataka, would soon launch Web-based Child Tracking System (CTS) to monitor the progress made by dropouts who have been brought back to school.
The district-wise data will be updated once a month so that the authorities could monitor the progress of such children.
The CTS could be used to update the database of such children and identify potential dropouts.
The Children Census conducted in January, which contains the dropout rate for 2010-11, will be the base year for the system.
Education department sources told UNI that each child registered under the CTS would be given a unique code for monitoring purposes.
The database of main streamed children (dropouts who are brought back to school) and potential school dropouts, which is collected or updated by each educational block in the districts, is incorporated into the system for online tracking.
Educational coordinators in the districts had prepared list of school dropouts. Soon after, such children were brought back to school, their attendance would be monitored based on the inputs from schools to the respective in-charge officers of the districts, the sources said.
