Ongole, October 22: Prakasam District Collector Kanthilal Dande was in for a rude shock when he visited the SC Girls Hostel at Tripurantakam mandal headquarters as even middle and high school students there could answer simple questions like name your State capital. The Collector who made a surprise visit to the hostel last night to find out the facilities available there, besides assess their academic capabilities, was shocked when all the 60 odd students said they they did not know the name of the State capital.
When asked to name the district headquarters they said it was Hyderabad, much to the embarrassment of the warden and a few teachers present there.
The Collector was reportedly very furious over the poor academic standards of the children and asked the principal of the ZP High School, where the children study, to give an explanation why their standard was so low.
It is learnt that the Collector had warned teachers present there to ensure that all children not only pass their exams but also ensure that the children were taught general knowledge.
