Pompeo meets P-5 counterparts, urges imposition of sanctions on Iran

New York: United States Secretary of State, Michael R. Pompeo, met the United Nations Secretary-General and his P-5 counterparts from the Security Council over breakfast here, where he placed emphasis on the need for working together for addressing global challenges.

According to Heather Nauert, the Spokesperson of the US Department of State, Pompeo, during the meeting, pushed for the re-imposition of sanctions on Iran as a pressure tactic to “change its malign behaviour, which continues to threaten regional and global stability”.

Furthermore, Pompeo rallied for the need to implement UN Security Council resolutions for achieving complete denuclearisation of North Korea while extending support for a UN-led political process to end the Syrian conflict, which is in line with the UN Security Council Resolution 2254.

He also urged the attendees of the breakfast meeting to support the UN-led political processes in Libya and Yemen, according to Nauert. (ANI)
