New Delhi, July 01: By-elections to Vemulawada and Sircilla Assembly constituencies in Andhra Pradesh would be held along with elections to ten other seats in the state on July 27, the Election Commission announced today.
The Commission has decided to go ahead with elections to these two Assembly seats following a directive from the Andhra Pradesh High Court yesterday.
Allowing a writ petition filed by Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) questioning EC’s decision to withhold bypolls to these two seats, a division bench of the court said the poll panel was bound to hold elections within six months after the respective seats are notified as vacant by the Speaker.
Elections to these two seats would be held as per the schedule announced for the ten seats earlier, the EC said.
