Police station in Ghaziabad burnt down after Quran’s desecration

Irate community members set fire to a police station in Masuri town of Ghaziabad district Friday night, after a Holy Quran, with its pages splashed with abusive graffiti, was discovered, police said.

The attack on the police station ensued after police allegedly ignored the complaint of the desecration of the holy book.

“A member of our community saw the defiled pages of the Quran on which objectionable and abusive words were found written along with a mobile number. He took the pages to senior community members in Masuri town who in turn took them to the police station. The police personnel, instead of taking action, ignored the complaint,” said advocate and local Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) leader Ayub Ali.

The irate mob set the police station alight. Police finally had to use force to disperse the mob.

A senior police officer confirmed the incident.

“Yes the mob have set the police station afire,” said Deputy Inspector General, Meerut, Zaki Ahmad, but did not give further details, saying he was on the spot only.
