Police seek chopper for anti-Maoist operations

Hyderabad, May 12: Home department officials have sought a helicopter for their anti-Maoist operations in the state and Chief Minister K Rosaiah assured them he would take up the issue with Union home minister P Chidambaram.

The proposal was put forth by Director General of Police R R Girish Kumar at at a review of the law and order situation in the state called by Rosaiah.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Home Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy said the police department needed a helicopter badly in the wake of a spurt in Maoist activity in the state. The chopper will be used by police officials to reach the troubled points. The minister said the chief minister had promised to write to Chidambaram seeking permission.
