YSR Congress party on Thursday demanded stern action against the police officials responsible for severely beating up the party activists belonging to Ibrahimpatnam and sending them to jail on false charges.
Talking to media persons YSR Congress party spokesperson Bajireddy Goverdhan said that nine activists were picked up on May 27 and severely beaten up and sent to Cheralaplli Jail without issuing any official note about their arrest. He said that the activists held dharna near Ibrahimpatnam and went to sleep at the party office from where they were picked at 2.30 am by in-charge ACP and beat them up severely saying that they were responsible for the death of a RTC bus driver.
However, they were sent to jail under Preventive Detention Act on a 15-day remand, he stated.
“The police did not reveal details of arrest of our party activists. We will move the court and take up the issue at the Human Rights Commission besides filing a private case as the police behaved in a high-handed manner,” he said. Action should be taken against all erring police personnel immediately, he demanded.
Ever since the arrest of Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, many activists were being picked up and harassed, he said adding that the issue would be taken up at appropriate levels. (INN)
