Bhubaneswar: Police today arrested two persons in connection with rape of a minor girl in Khurda district, who had allegedly committed suicide over alleged police inaction.
The rape victim, a Class 10 student from Suanpadia village, had committed suicide on January 24 over alleged police inaction and not getting justice.
Two persons were arrested from near Kunjuri, police said adding that the arrested persons have been identified as Nimai Palei (22), the prime accused in the case, and his brother Kedar Palei.
The villagers had staged road blockade by placing the girls body in front of Banapur Police Station on January 25.
According to the FIR lodged by the victim’s family on January 2, the minor girl was allegedly raped by Nimai Palei of the same village, while she was on her way to attend natures call on December 31 last year.
The incident created a statewide uproar as it happened just two days after the suicide of another minor girl who was allegedly gang raped by a group of men in uniform in Kunduli area of Koraput district on October 10 last year.
