Hyderabad: Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy today exhorted people to use fresh food items to keep healthy.
He was launching a five-day Telangana Udyana Mahotsavam-2017 on the Necklace Road on the People’s Plaza exhibiting fresh fruits and vegetables from various districts of the State. Agriculture Secretary Partha Sarathi and other Horticulture Department officials were those present.
Speaking to mediapersons, Pocharam said the expo showcases all the fresh fruits and vegetable brought in from various places of Telangana. The minister stressed the need for using organic fertilizers rather than chemical fertilizers for better produce and the horticulture department has brought in new methods of technology for production of vegetables and fruits. Since the farmers can reap more benefits through the horticulture the government is encouraging them with subsidies. We should produce more quantities of fruits and vegetables to export to other states besides using for domestic purpose, the minister remarked. The five-day expo will be available for people till Aug 31.
The people should produce the vegetables using the organic fertilizers at their homes and get them fresh for consumption to keep healthy the minister said. Village Coordination meetings will be conducted by resource persons from Sept 10 to 14 by setting up 10800 revenue villages as 3600 units from September 1 to 9.
The State government will conduct a comprehensive land survey and get the details of the farmers and through AEO records will deposit Rs 4000 per acre into their bank accounts from next May 15. “Our target is to give each farmer Rs 8,000 per acre for two crops in a year towards crop investment and create a Telangana that sans from suicides by farmers, he said.
