Karachi, July 30 : Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday announced a compensation of Rs. 500 million to help rehabilitate those affected by floods in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Reviewing the ongoing relief activities in the flood-hit areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Sharif also announced Rs. 5 lakhs as compensation for the heirs of those who lost their lives, Rs. 1.5 lakh each for the injured and Rs. 2.5 lakh allocation for the reconstruction of damaged property.
Besides, the premier announced a grant of Rs. 1.5 lakh million to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to expedite relief activities in the affected area.
Sharif said that the government will provide all possible resources to develop flood-affected areas as well allocate basic facilities in health and education sectors.
The premier also mentioned the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, adding that Gilgit-Baltistan will greatly benefit from the project.
He added that the road from Gilgit to Skardu will be improved and expanded further to Khaplu. (ANI)
