Pirce rise: BJP to launch nation-wide agitation from March 10

Bhopal, January 17: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will launch a nation-wide agitation from March 10 in protest the spiralling price rise.

”Party workers will observe sit-in and demonstrations in front of all district headquarters across the country and also raise the issue strongly in the next session of parliament,” BJP co-convenor (cooperative cell) Dhananjay Kumar Singh told reporters here today.

Mr Singh, who came here to discuss about election of National Federation of the cell, said the party would also raise the issue in the states before March 10.

Castigating the Centre’s ‘faulty policy’ for the price hike, Mr Singh said the inflation had hiked 2.53 per cent in between November and December last year.

Alleging the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre as ‘anti-farmer’ policy, the BJP leader said the government purchased wheat at a price of Rs eight per kg from the farmers while the wheat was being imported from the foreign country for Rs 16 and last year the government also purchased wheat from the ryots for Rs 23 per kg and imported for Rs 56.

Farmers also sold paddy for Rs ten per kg and was being compelled to purchase it for Rs 40 per kg, he said.

Mr Singh said the forty per cent peasants wanted to wash off their hands from their profession due to the faulty policy of the Centre and about eighty lakh farmers had opted for other profession in the last decade.

Expressing concern over the incidents of farmers’ suicide, Mr Singh said according to a government record since 1993 over one lakh farmers had committed suicide.
