Chennai, February 12: Joining issue with Chief Minister M Karunanidhi over the Pennagaram bypoll, AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa today dismissed as “baseless” his charge that the Election Commission was biased towards her party.
Karunanidhi was trying to create an image that the EC was biased towards AIADMK which is “truly baseless”, she said, refuting allegations that the assembly bye-elections were postponed by the Election Commission on AIADMK’s insistence.
During an all-party meet in December, all parties barring DMK had favoured postponement of the assembly by-poll, she said in a statement here, adding, her party was prepared for any elections at any time.
Originally scheduled to be held on January 20 this year, the by-poll was postponed to February by the EC following requests by these parties.
