Parimarjan Negi stuns Milov in World Chess Cup

Khanty Mansiysk (Russia), November 22: World’s second youngest Grandever Parimarjan Negi scored a hard fought victory over higher rated Vadim Milov of Switzerland to raise his hopes of a place in the second round of the World Chess Cup here.

It turned out to be an excellent day for the Indians last night as none lost while National Champion Surya Shekhar Ganguly and his Kolkata citymate Sandipan Chanda scored fine victories over Anton Filippov of Uzbekistan and Mikhail Kobalia of Russia respectively.

On the flip side, top rated Indian Krishnan Sasikiran spoiled his chances with a draw against Holland’s Erwin L’Ami.

International Sriram Jha and GrandAbhijit Kunte, who held stars like Alexander Grichuk of Russia and Alexei Shirov of Spain to creditable draws, were more than impressive in the tournament.

Last year’s World Junior champion Abhijeet Gupta also played out a draw with a higher rated Nikita Vitiugov of Russia.
