Padma kick starts Bathukamma festivities

Hyderabad: Former deputy speaker Padma Devender Reddy today kick-started the nine-day long floral festival of Bathukamma at Kollapur in Nagar Kurnool district. Padma participated in the festivities carrying colourful Bathukamma over her head along with a large number of womenfolk in the district. Also present were former minister Jupally Krishna Rao, former MLAs G Balaraj and TRS leaders.

Speaking on the occasion, Padma said that TRS Boss K Chandrasekhar Rao has got the credit of retaining the past glory for Telangana festivals in the past four and half years. The KCR government took steps to ensure that Telangana culture and traditions spread across the world through Bathukamma and other festivities with top priority. She charged that the past rulers in combined state have deliberately suppressed the culture and traditions of the state. However, on coming to power Chief Minister has accorded state festival status to the floral Bathukamma event across the state, Padma claimed.

Krishna Rao said that Bathukamma festivities are being celebrated across the state by involving women and girls in a large number. KCR has launched several welfare and development programs in the past four and half years he said. Krishna Rao also said that credit of turning Kollapur as Konaseema will go to KCR by completing all the projects.
