Owaisi to move private member’s bill on mob violence

New Delhi: AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi said on Tuesday he has given notice to introduce in the Lok Sabha a private member’s bill on mob violence.

The member of Parliament from Hyderabad tweeted that he has given notice to introduce the Mob Violence (Prevention and Punishment) Bill, 2017.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief also posted a letter from the Lok Sabha Secretariat acknowledging the receipt of his notice.

The Lok Sabha member had recently announced that he will introduce a private member’s bill to control “mobocracy and lynching”.

He had voiced concern over the killing of people by vigilantes in the name of cow protection in different parts of the country.

Owaisi had also termed as mere lip service Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement condemning the violence by cow vigilantes.

He alleged that ‘gorakshaks’ were getting help from the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Sangh Parivar.

He said that responsibility to ensure rule of law lies with the government.
