Hyderabad, October 19: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on Tuesday removed encroachments from the Jawahar Nagar dumping yard.
According to GHMC officials, about 16 acres of land was encroached upon by people in the last 10 days. The encroachers have not only erected temporary shelters, but have also constructed a temple, mosque and a church. In a joint operation, the GHMC and Revenue Department officials demolished over 700 huts from the site by taking protection from the police department.
Additional Commissioner (Health and Sanitation) S Aleem Basha told INN that the encroachers tried to take advantage of the general strike and might have thought their encroachment would not be noticed soon. However, the GHMC swung into action and removed the encroachment.
Of nearly 300 acres of land belonging to the GHMC at Jawahar Nagar, about 50 acres has already been encroached upon the different people. Aleem Basha said that the cases were going in different courts to evict the encroachers. He warned that the GHMC would take serious legal action against those who try to encroachment upon its land.
