Hyderabad, November 13: Two Congress MPs and three MLCs besides as many as 169 party workers were today taken into custody by police for staging a dharna to protest former RSS Chief K S Sudarshan “derogatory” remarks about AICC president Sonia Gandhi.
Secunderabad MP Anjan Kumar Yadav, Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumanth Rao, MLCs Ganga Bhavani, Prabhakar Rao, and R Padamaraju were among those who were taken into preventive custody after they staged a protest near the Press Club in Basheerbagh area.
All of them were later released on station bail, Central Zone DCP Akun Sabharwal told PTI.
Saifabad Police registered a case under Section 151 CrPC against the Congress leaders and party workers, he said.
However, no case was registered against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah and APCC president D Srinivas, though they too were part of the dharna.
The Congressmen were taken into custody for squatting on the road and obstructing the traffic while neither the CM nor the APCC president did anything of that sort, the senior police officer explained.
Meanwhile, the TDP found fault with the Chief Minister’s action in sitting on a dharna.
Party General Secretary Varla Ramaiah pointed out in a statement that the Chief Minister used to critcise opposition parties whenever they took up an agitation programme on people’s issues.
“It is only to remain in the good books of Sonia Gandhi and get renewal for the Chief Minister’s post that Rosaiah himself sat on a dharna,” Ramaiah lashed out.
