OU students held for protest against Rohit’s suicide

More than 100 students, associated with Osmania University JAC, were taken into custody when they held protest near Secretariat on Tuesday in protest against suicide committed by University of Hyderabad’s research scholar Rohit Vemula.

Led by JAC leader Bhaskar, the OU students tried to ‘gherao’ Secretariat and raised slogans against the government over Rohit’s suicide. They demanded justice with Rohit’s family and arrest of Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatraya, BJP MLC N. Ramchander Rao and Vice-Chancellor Appa Rao.

Speaking to media persons, Bhaskar announced that the OU students would continue their protest until their demands are met by the government. He said it was strange and highly condemnable that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao maintained silence over Rohit’s suicide and other related developments while several national leaders came to Hyderabad to express their protest. (INN)
