Srinagar, October 15: Chairmen of both factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq were put under house arrest in Srinagar.
It was a precautionary measures, official sources here said today.
A spokesman of the moderate HC Shahidul Islam said Mirwaiz was put under house arrest since early this morning by the authorities.
He said a large number of security force and state police personnel were deployed outside the Nigeen house of Mirwaiz, who was informed that he cannot leave till further orders.
Mr Shahidul said Mirwaiz was scheduled to visit the shrine of Hazrat Sheikh Nooruddin Wali at Charar-e-Sharief and address the Friday congregation.
Mr Geelani also remained under house arrest for the past about one month in his Hyderpora residence where security forces and police personnel had been deployed outside.
