Not against Metro Rail project, but its design: TRS

Hyderabad, July 01: Emphasising that Telangana Rashtra Samithi is not against the Hyderabad Metro Rail project, TRS politburo member Dasoju Sravan Kumar on Thursday clarified that the party was against the design of project.

Talking to media persons at TRS Bhavan, Mr Sravan Kumar demanded that the government change its design first before implementing the project.

He said the present project design, if implemented as it is, would destroy the heritage and historical constructions of the state capital.

The TRS politburo member further repeated his party leader’s allegations that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has not made any statement as he received kickbacks from the Larsen and Tourbo, the company awarded to implement the massive project.

“The Chief Minister’s role is even more suspect as he had not even conducted public hearings on the project,” Mr Sravan Kumar said.

He demanded that the state government convene an all-party meeting to clear the doubts of leaders and people on the project.

“It is the duty of the state government to clear misconceptions on the implementation of Metro Rail Project as it is affecting a lot of heritage structures and historical constructions,” the TRS leader stated.

Mr Sravan Kumar further said that the TRS has expressed solidarity to the bandh call given by traders of Sultan Bazaar and Badi Chowdi on July 1 against the project.
