No power cuts to industries, says CM

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Telangana State Council, organized a first Annual Meeting with a theme focusing on “Mapping Industrial Growth by tapping sectors of advantage in Telangana” here today.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the conference, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said the State Government has come up with a new Industrial Promotion Policy which is transparent in giving clearances to the industry within a stipulated time. He also felt that self-certification is a unique feature in the Industrial Policy of Telangana.

Talking from historical perspective of the new State of Telangana, the Chief Minister felt Hyderabad was largest cosmopolitan city with the presence of several industries. The culture of industrialization and urbanization was deeply rooted in Telangana society. While articulating from the Investors point of view, he pointed out that key enablers for setting up the industry such as land, water and power are readily available in the State. Some 2.5 lakh acres of government land was earmarked for industries, he said, adding that ten percent of water from the proposed water grid would be allotted to industry in the State.
On the availability of power for industries in the State, KCR said there would not be any power cuts for industry in the long term. Even during the power shortage, the Government did not impose power cuts to industry and managed the situation by buying power from other States, he added. He also mentioned that there are sever thermal power projects which are under construction and are expected to be completed by the end of the year. He also assured the industry that there would not be any power cuts in the coming days.

Dr B V R Mohan Reddy, Past Chairman, CII Southern Region & Founder and Executive Chairman, Cyient Limited in his special address said that the major contribution to Telangana’s economy is coming from service sector. There are several industrial sectors such as Information technology and pharmaceuticals are mainly contributing to the economy of Telangana. In this context, he felt that the new state of Telangana should focus on the core sectors of advantage such as Information technology, pharma, defense and aviation as well as sectors which have the potential to grow in the coming days. He also felt that innovation and entrepreneurship need to be encouraged in the state.

Rajshree Pathy, Deputy Chairperson, CII Southern Region and Managing Director, Rajshree Sugars and Chemicals Ltd in her address said that with the proactive involvement of Telangana Government the state would become the one of the premium state in the country. The focus on innovation is essential for growth of industry in the state, she felt.

Jupally Krishna Rao, Minister for Major Industries, Handlooms, Textiles and Sugar, Government of Telangana and Dr. K Pradeep Chandra IAS, Special Chief Secretary, Dept. of Industries and Commerce, Government of Telangana were also present during the session.
Earlier, Vanitha Datla, Chairperson, CII Telangana and Executive Director & CFO, Elico Ltd delivered the welcome address and Mr. Nrupender Rao, Vice Chairman, CII Telangana and Chairman Pennar Industries delivered the concluding remarks at the inaugural session. (NSS)
