Kolkata, August 20: West Bengal Finance minister Asim Dasgupta who met senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley in Delhi recently, today said nothing political should be read into it.
“I don’t understand politics that much, but I understand economics well. I discussed among other things, the issue of Goods and Services tax with Arun Jaitley,” Dasgupta, a Harvard educated economist, said.
Dasgupta, who is also chairman of the Committee of Finance Ministers to oversee transition to a new sales tax regime, said “I did not discuss the issue with Jaitley alone.
The Secretary of the Committee of the Finance Ministers was also present.”
He said he had also discussed the same issue with the finance minister of DMK-ruled Tamil Nadu where the secretary of the FM’s Committee was also present. “All states seem to have expressed solidarity on the issue,” he said.
