No mad rush to complete work on Metro: Minister

New Delhi, July 14: The government today sought to allay apprehensions that safety norms were being flouted in order to complete Metro construction in the capital ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

“The government is in no mad rush for the completion of the project. Safety is of primary concern,” Minister of State for Urban Development Saugata Roy said in the Rajya Sabha.

He was responding to concerns of members who demanded better safety at Metro construction sites to prevent mishaps.

The members expressed anguish over the death of six persons when an under-construction bridge of the Delhi Metro gave way in South Delhi on Sunday.

They alleged that safety norms were being flouted while trying to meet the deadline of completing the task before the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
