Lucknow, January 15: Amid strict watch of the Election Commission, Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) supremo and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today celebrated her 56th birthday with media persons by announcing the party candidates for the assembly polls.
This year the birthday of Mayawati was celebrated without any pomp and show due to the assembly elections. The CM attired in her usual pink dress with an overcoat besides the diamond ear tops and necklace addressed the media persons at the newly constructed party office.
Ms Mayawati also accepted flowers from the party leaders including Satish Chandra Mishra, Swami Prasad Maurya and Nasimuddin Siddique when these leaders wished her birthday greetings.
The CM in her address said that she has asked the party workers to celebrate her birthday privately with their family members due to the elections and returning to power with big majority in the elections would be her birthday gift from the people this time.
” In the past years, this day had been celebrated as Jan Kalyankari Diwas to help the poor and downtrodden but due to assembly elections this year all the programmes have been suspended,” she said.

Every year, Mayawati’s birthday is marked by a big bash where partymen, businessmen and other guests shower gold and silver jewellery, diamonds and other expensive gifts on the Dalit icon.She had named the occasion as ‘ Arthik Sahyog Diwas’ for the party workers and leaders.
On the occasion she also released the book ”A Travelogue of my Struggle- Ridden Life and BSP Movement- volume 7” which is also popularly known as’ Blue Book’ of the party.
Talking about the book she said that any movement is incomplete if there is no history and the books penned by her will give the youths an opportunity to go through the history of the movement of Kanshiram and herself to fight for the rights to the dalits and downtroddens in the country.
Ms Mayawati after the press meet also accepted greetings from the media persons, which was a rare gesture by her in the recent past besides she also walked along with the reporters to answer their queries and took pain to enter the tent put on to hold lunch for the media persons.
” I want to see what has been prepared for your lunch which is a treat from me to you on my birthday,” she said going around the tent to have a glimpse of the dishes.
Earlier, Ms Mayawati during her entire tenure did not allow any mediapersons to go near her and even several times she refused to answer any queries during the press conference.
