Santiniketan (WB), August 23: The CBI is no longer pursuing its investigation into the theft of Rabindranath Tagore’s Nobel medallion and other memorabilia from the Rabindra Bhavan at Santiniketan, official sources said today.
In a letter to the university authorities on August 20, the SP, Special Crime Branch of the CBI, Kolkata, said that the investigation had been closed for want of any significant clue.
Registrar of the university Manimukut Mitra said it was clearly written in the letter, which he had received on August 21, that the premier investigation agency had closed the probe.
“CBI is the most efficient and trusted investigation agency in this country. We do not know any better agency, but we still hope to get back the priceless treasures,” Mitra said.
The theft of the medallion and 47 other memorabilia came to light on March 25, 2004.
