No clean chit to Modi in Sohrabuddin encounter case: Bansal

New Delhi, August 19: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal today clarified in the Lok Sabha that the CBI has not given a clean chit to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case as alleged by the RJD and the SP on the basis of some reports in the media and the premier investigative agency has issued a rebuttal to this effect.

When the House met for the day, there were noisy scenes in the House as RJD, SP and Left Parties’ members were up on their feet alleging a deal has been struck between the Congress and the BJP over support for the Civil Nuclear Bill.

Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav said the BJP used the nuclear liability bill to bail out Modi and both the BJP and the Congress had struck a ‘deal’ over another deal.

BJP members also rose from their seats, alleging ‘’step-motherly’’attitude of the Centre towards Madhya Pradesh with regard to electricity and energy supply.

Speaker Meira Kumar tried to pacify the agitated members and asked them to take their seats.

After this, Mr Bansal stood up and clarified that no clean chit has been given to Mr Modi and some parties’ protests over this were merely on the basis of media reports.

He said: ’’Today it is in the newspapers that the CBI has not given any such clean chit to Mr Modi. The CBI has issued a rebuttal to this effect. Investigations are still on in the case and the facts will soon come out. It is on the orders of the apex court that the CBI is probing the case.

‘’The Centre has never interfered in the functioning of the CBI and it never will,’’ he asserted.

On the allegations of Madhya Pradesh, he said the Centre has been fair to all state governments and there is no question of adopting a ‘’step-motherly’’ attitude towards any one of them.

Earlier, the House paid homage and expressed profound sorrow over the deaths of 18 school children in Uttarakhand following a cloudburst. The House also stood in silence to pay its tribute to the deceased.

The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day yesterday over the issue of the nuclear bill amid protests by the RJD and SP members.
