Bangalore, Jun 26: Self-styled godman Nityananda, facing rape and other criminal charges, today appeared before police for the first time since his release on bail as per the conditions laid down by the Karnataka High Court.
Nityananda, released on bail on June 12 after 53 days in prison, was directed by the High Court to furnish a bond of Rupees one lakh and two sureties with a direction to appear before the jurisdictional police once every 15 days.
He reported at the police station as per the court directive, his counsel Vivekananda Gupta said.
Nityananda was embroiled in a controversy after a purported video footage showing him in a compromising position with a Tamil actress was aired on some local TV channels.
Cases of rape and other offences were registered against him in Tamil Nadu and transferred to Karnataka.
