New Delhi, December 19: Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Nitin Gadkari appointed as the new national president of the main opposition party on Saturday. Outgoing president of the party RajnathSingh resigned from the post. Nitin Gadkari took the charge at the party headquarters.
Briefing the media, Rajnath Singh also announced the appointment of Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitely as the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha respectively. “I am very happy the party is giving me the highest responsibility,” Gadkari, 52, told reporters after attending the BJP Parliamentary Board meeting.
“I have come here to accept the responsibility. I will act for the politics of development,” he said. Outgoing party president RajnathSingh is expected to formally hand over charge to Gadkari Saturday.
