Niira Radia tapes case: SC to hear Tata petition from Apr 19

New Delhi, April 02: The Supreme Court will start from April 19 the regular hearing of the petition filed by industrialist Ratan Tata in the Niira Radia tapes conversation case.

In the petition, Mr Tata has objected to the leakage of his conversation with corporate consultant Radia to the media, alleging that such leakage has violated his right to privacy as a citizen of India.

A bench comprising Justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly will also hear an application, filed by Centre for PIL, an NGO, counsel Prashant Bushan seeking directions to the government to make entire conversation between Radia and others, including industrialists, politicians and journalists public as the people have the right to know how the country is being governed.

Mr Tata has also prayed to lay down appropriate guidelines to protect citizens against such attacks on their privacy as such attacks amount to violations of their fundamental right, Right to Life guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution.

All the tapes containing the conversation of Radia, who is facing allegations of indulging in anti-national activities, have been kept by the Supreme Court in safe custody.
