NEW DELHI: Professor Najma Akhtar, the new vice-chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia on Monday met with Minister for Human Resource Development (MHRD) Prakash Javadeker to discussed plans for the all round development of JMI.
During her meeting, which lasted for 30 minutes, Akhtar underlined the pressing needs to fill the vacant posts in various departments soliciting full support of the Minister.
She stressed on introducing professional post graduate and new vocational courses with short and long duration plans.
Professor Akhtar assured the HRD minister of “submitting all-embracing plans within a few weeks.”
According to media reports, the MHRD also congratulated Professor Akhtar on her appointment as the first woman Vice Chancellor of Jamia.
The Minister also congratulated her on Jamia being at the 12th position in the universities category in the country.
Professor Akhtar will be the 16th VC of Jamia Millia Islamia. She is also the first woman vice-chancellor of any central university in Delhi.
An AMU topper, Professor Akhtar has completed her PhD in Education from Kurukshetra University and has donned many crucial hats in her career.
