Nepal couple killed after witchcraft accusation

Kathmandu, July 13: A couple was murdered in western Nepal after they were accused of practising witchcraft, local media reported Tuesday.
Police said the 45-year-old woman and 55-year-old man, members of the ethnic Gurung minority, were killed by their neighbours in Dang district after a local faith healer accused them of practising witchcraft, the Nagarik daily said.
Police arrested three people, including the faith healer, in connection with the murder, but the main suspect, identified as Megh Raj Nepali, was still on the run.
“It appears that the couple was murdered after the faith healer said Megh Raj’s wife’s illness was due to witchcraft and pointed fingers at the Gurung couple,” Hari Das Shrestha, the local police chief, said.
