NC leader quits party to join street protests

National Conference (NC) leader Iftikhar Hussain Misgar, who fought the recent by-elections against Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, quit his party on Sunday to join the ongoing protests.

He announced his decision in Anantnag town in the evening and joined a street protest shouting pro-freedom slogans.

Misgar, who had lost to Mehbooba Mufti in the April bypoll, had also fought and lost the 2014 assembly elections against her father, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, in 2014 from the same constituency.
