Ahmedabad, November 04: The Nanavati Commission probing the 2002 riots has summoned Rais Khan, who has accused social activist Teesta Setalvad, of tutoring witnesses and making them sign false affidavits.
Officials said that Khan has been asked to appear on November 18 for questioning in connection with the affidavit he had submitted before the panel that carries allegations against Setalvad.
Khan has been summoned a day after a Special Court hearing the 2002 Gulburg society riot case asked the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the allegations made against Teesta by Khan and submit a report by November 18.
After the 2002 riots, Khan had worked as co-ordinator with Citizen For Justice and Peace (CJP), an NGO, headed by Setalvad, from February 28, 2002 to January 18, 2008.
Khan in his affidavit has stated that he could throw light on how witnesses were tutored, cheated and made to sign false affidavits by Setalvad. He has further stated that on Setalvad’s instructions, he had restricted witnesses from deposing before the commission.
Incidentally, Khan has been accused by some of the witnesses of manipulating their affidavits.
