Naidu directs officials to prepare action plan to retrofit all existing conventional Street Lights

As part of AP Govt’s pro-public policy of Energy conservation and in tune with the policy of the Govt. of India to take up energy efficiency activities in the Rural Areas, the Chief Minister N. Chandra Babu Naidu has directed the senior officials of the Panchayat Raj & Energy I&I departments to prepare a time bound action plan within 15 days to retrofit all the existing conventional Street Lights available to the extent of around 25 Lakhs with LED Street Lighting systems as was done in Municipalities & Municipal Corporations, so as to provide the fruits of Energy Conservation to the Rural Gram Panchayats. If the Street Lights in the Panchayats are replaced with Energy efficient LED Lights, the monthly electricity consumption charges would reduce by around 50% apart from relieving the burden of operation & maintenance expenditure of street lights on the panchayats for 10 years.

 

Accordingly, the CM has suggested to C. Ayyanna Patrudu,  Minister of Panchayat Raj Department, K.S. Jawahar Reddy, Principal Secretary, Panchayat Raj, GoAP, Ajay Jain, Principal Secretary, Energy, I&I, CRDA, GoAP, K. Vijayanand, CMD/APTRANSCO B. Veeranjaneyulu, Commissioner, Panchayat Raj to take up the matter of Village LED Street Lighting programme, with M/s Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), Ministry of Power Govt. of India, which is having a proven track record of implementing LED Street Lighting programme across the Country, to chalk out the action Plan. The Hon’ble CM has directed the Panchayat Raj & Energy Departments officials to complete the Village LED Street Lights programme by the end of 2017 i.e 31st December 2017.

Speaking on the occasion of  releasing the 2017 Calendar highlighting the significance of EE/EC activities take up in the State in different sectors such as Domestic, Agriculture and Municipalities, certain Energy Conservation/ Efficiency tips and impact on Environment, along with K.Vijayanand, CMD/ APTRANSCO, the CM has directed the Energy Department officials to take the Energy Efficiency campaign to the grass root levels in the year 2017 involving APSEEDCO which has been constituted exclusively for promotion of Energy Efficiency activities in the State along with providing Energy related consultancy services to the bulk consumers in the State.”Since AP State has already attained No.1 position in the Country beyond any doubts and became role model for other state, now it is high time to compete with the Global players in Energy Efficiency, suggested the CM.  Disclosing the above, after the calendar release K. Vijayanand, stated that Star Rated Appliances are very helpful in reducing the end use energy consumption and protecting the environment and all the Electricity Consumers in the State should habituate to use only Star rated Appliances at Homes, Establishments, Industries etc. (NSS)
