Muslims at Modi venue: VHP men clash over taunt

Ahmedabad, September 23: Two factions of the VHP clashed on Thursday over an SMS sent to one of the faction members taunting Chief Minister Narendra Modi over the presence of large number of Muslims in the Sadbhavana mission fasts.

Ahmedabad Police Commissioner Sudhir Sinha told The Indian Express that a VHP member, Alpesh Patel, had sent this SMS to another VHP member Narendra Kholia a couple of days back. Kholia apparently switched off his cellphone and did not communicate with Patel till they met on Thursday.

“Today the two met at the VHP headquarter in Ellisbridge where Patel had an argument with Kholia and beat him up, locking him up in the room. So we have registered an offence,” said Sinha.

The Ellisbridge Police station took an FIR booking Patel for assault, illegal confinement and threatening to kill Kholia.

The arguments heated up due to the mobile text message in Gujarati regarding the programme, which played on the words ‘Miyaji’ and ‘Shivaji’, said Sinha.

Sources, however, added that the VHP members were discussing about Modi’s programme where most of the VHP members reportedly disliked the appreciation and recognition given to Muslims during the programme. Kholia reportedly spoke in favour of the CM which infuriated Patel and both got into heated arguments.

The arguments developed into a scuffle and Patel hit Kholia with a baseball bat.
